The fairy dipped into the pond again and this time brought out a silver axe. He asked again, “So is this your axe?” The woodcutter again told the truth, “No, this is not my axe.”

The fairy dipped into the pond for the third time and brought out the woodcutter’s own iron axe. The woodcutter was happy and said, “Yes, this is my axe!”

The fairy was pleased with his honesty and also gave him a gold and silver axe as a gift. The woodcutter expressed his gratitude with joy and continued to live an honest life.
