The quota reform movement came into renewed discussion in 2024 after the Bangladesh High Court declared the circular issued on 4 October 2018, which abolished the 10 percent women’s quota, 30 percent freedom fighter quota, and 10 percent district quota in government jobs, invalid on 5 June 2024. In July, the quota reform movement began with university students and job seekers, which turned into a mass movement due to government repression. Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign as a result of the mass uprising of the students and the public. At the cost of many lives, an interim government was formed for the country, led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
